LESPACEMAKER: a collaborative space dedicated to making and sharing knowledge

LESPACEMAKER is a shared, community-based fabrication workshop located in Montreal’s Centre-Sud district.

LESPACEMAKER’s mission is to provide a collaborative space for making, learning, exploring, creating, exhibiting and sharing knowledge. It provides specialized tools, space and expertise.

The workshop promotes the democratization of technical expertise in a safe and inclusive environment.

LESPACEMAKER also supports the emergence of citizen projects linked to the socio-ecological transition, and offers a dynamic cultural program all year long.

COMMUNITY

LESPACEMAKER brings together artists, craftspeople, researchers, engineers, programmers, developers, enthusiasts and curious people of all ages. Everyone contributes to the viability of the community by paying a monthly user fee and participating in its daily activation. LESPACEMAKER is an inclusive place: anyone interested can take a tour of the workshops and join the project.

SELF-SERVICE WORKSHOPS

All the workshops are equipped for open use. Uses, layout and material acquisition priorities are reviewed regularly in accordance with the intentions and goals of the different committees. For further details on the tools that are currently available, please contact the relevant committees.

ACCES CLASSES

To use the workshops, you need to take an access training course. Two options are available, depending on your level of experience:
● Access training (101 and 102): intended for novices, these courses provide the basic knowledge needed to operate the machines safely and independently.
● Recognition of prior learning (RAC 101 and RAC 102): offered to experienced personnel, these courses validate skills already acquired in the use of the machines.

INDIVIDUAL WORKSPACES

Members can rent permanent private spaces. The layout of these spaces is at the discretion of the tenants. They can be used as work offices, production studios, specialized workshops, exhibition spaces or storage areas.

EVENTS

LESPACEMAKER offers occasional and recurring events that showcase the creativity, art and spirit of our community.

INSOMNIA our party of free artistic creation during the Nuit blanche
